Dysfunctional Chapters

Dysfunctional chapters are usually weak in many or all of these areas:

  1. Weak in alumni/parent relations;
  2. Poor alumni volunteer and/or undergraduate officer leadership and a need for leadership development;
  3. No passion for excellence within the chapter;
  4. Lack of written goals & written programs for all areas of chapter operations that are evaluated often by chapter officers, alumni volunteers and the chapter as a whole;
  5. Absence of trust between chapter members & its leadership and/or undergraduates and volunteer leadership;
  6. Missing a firm grip on priorities;
  7. Missing the right Big Brothers;
  8. Members not involved enough at the National and local campus level;
  9. Relationship with school administrators and Fraternity Regional & National leadership missing;
  10. Recruiting for excellence – finding the right members missing;
  11. Finances not in order;
  12. Lack of a commitment & focus on risk management areas;
  13. Avoidance of accountability by undergraduate leadership towards its members and/or between alumni volunteer leadership and the chapter;
  14. Academics, campus & chapter leadership, service & membership development are not the focus but social is;
  15. Inattention to results by undergraduate officers towards fellow officers & committee chairs, and/or by alumni volunteers towards the chapter, and/or regional volunteer leadership and advisors.
